1. About Shepherd

Shepherd Technology Training School, located in Los Angeles, California, is a fast growing institution. STTS currently offers various language classes like ESL, IELTS to the peoples in this area and peoples from abroad who need to read, speak, read and write various languages fluently (especially English) so that they can use them appropriately in their working environment and for the development of their professional careers.

With the helps of American Registered Nurse Job Placement Center and School of Language at STTS, the recent success of the school in the area of registered nurse test preparation program and job placement was not unexpected. Quite a while, the school continued to invest, develop and run its unique Registered Nurse Test Preparation Program such as NCLEX-R/N Test Preparation class, IELTS, TSE and ESL programs.

The STTS successfully provided 100 percent job placement to those registered nurses from abroad that went through training programs that the school offered. The school is one stop place for those who prepare to take NCLEX-RN test, IELTS (to meet the requirement of resident alien and visa screen) and aims to get a job in the States.

However, the school offers one and only program that helps not only those nurses from abroad by providing job-placement opportunities but also hospitals that are in need of lots of qualified registered nurses. For instance, STTS already graduated about 65 students through 4 consecutive testing program sessions. 100 percent of students passed the test. Then STTS immediately helped their job placement. Now, they enjoy working at various hospitals in town and come up with feedback that they truly benefited from our training program.

STTS continues to endeavors to provide job training and job placement opportunities to those nurses (not only from Korea but also from Philippine, China, and Canada). STTS will be continually committed to working on this vocational and technical training program because we see the vibrant vision of that God had for us for sharing, helping and sacrificing what STTS had.



2. Objectives

1) STTS trains nurses from Korea, Philippine, China, and Canada and appropriately educates them. STTS also works its best to provide helps not only for our students but also for students who are in need of our qualified students. This is why it intends to work closely with human resource centers in various hospitals in such a way that we help the hospitals that are in need of well-trained and diligent nurses from our school, and we help our students who need job-placement right after they are finished with our programs.

2) By the help of American Nurse Job Placement Center at our institution, it aims to provide job-training and job-placement opportunities to nurses from abroad. The school offers programs that are proven, secured and multi-leveled programs to nurses from abroad. Upon their completion of their program, STTS helps them to find a job immediately and to enjoy working in the hospitals in town.

3) STTS purports to make the balance between the shortage of nurses in the States and surplus of nurses in countries like Korea, China, and Philippine. STTS will continue to work closely with hospitals in the States by offering good-quality training programs and job placement afterward for nurses from abroad

3. `Current Needs of Nurses in the States and the world

With the recent policy change for the nurses and long-term ignorance about the importance of nursing program by the government, the States currently came to see the sudden breakdown of balance between supply and demand regarding nurses. The States are now in need of 300,000 nurses for the appropriate operation of hospitals in general. Study shows that, with currently available nursing program combined with expected retired registered nurses in next few years, the States will be in need of 400,000 more nurses soon.

If we don't act right now, the States (50 states all together) will face the disaster, which will hinder from providing medical helps for those who are desperate. No doubt some of them will go through painful waiting period for their life-threatening sickness and wounds. Already, people who are working at the human resource center of each hospital are crying out because of immense pressures that they had both from government and patients.

Unfortunately however, the currently available Nursing Schools in the States cannot resolve the current problem because they graduate only limited number of nurses every year. Then the answer is clear. We have to look for nurses at another place. If we look at human resources globally, it is not hard to find well-qualified nurses from abroad. STTS knows this problem and is willing to play a role at this crux moment in an attempt to resolve the current crisis.

For instance, STTS can bring well-qualified nurses from Korea, Philippine, India, and China. There are immense surplus as far as nurses are concerned. Currently, American Association of Nurses and BCIS attempt to bring international registered nurses through appropriate legal procedure and visa screening because hospitals in the States desperately need them. In the beginning of 2004, amendment will be made to California law regarding availability of nurses for certain numbers of patients.



4. Characteristics

1) Shepherd Technical Training School (STTS) is a sole place where nurses from abroad can go through job training programs (Registered Nurse Testing Program and IELTS for VISA SCREEN) that California BPPVE approved. The school also provides job placement for our students. Those nurses from abroad who expect to work in the States need to prepare the followings:

     (1) NCLEX-R/N Test
     (2) IELTS for VISA SCREEN
     (3) Advanced English Language Skills
     (4) Job Placement in local hospitals
     (5) Job training program that local hospitals offer
     (6) Job interviews or tests

STTS helps students to prepare all of the above by providing job training program and job placement. STTS also proudly provides advanced levels of English programs that truly help develop students' language skills. This is certainly a sole place that students and hospitals get their helps.

2) STTS continues to invest a lot of resources and energies for developing this truly benefited programs. The American Registered Nurse Job Placement Center at STTS collect all new information regarding various tests and current demand of local hospitals in an attempt to serve students' needs.

3) Last few years, almost all of our students who went through our test preparation programs satisfactorily passed the tests. There were few students who could not pass the texts at their first and second attempts. Yet, we provide continuing education for those students for free and they ended up passing the tests.

4) The Social Service Center also helps provide job placement to our students and helps them to get their resident alien status through the helps of their hospitals and their employers.
